Long Term Care
Nursing / Medical

The Director of Care oversees all nursing and personal care. Nursing services are resident centred and available 24 hours a day. Services are provided by Registered Nursing Staff and Personal Support Workers. Administration of medication and assistance with activities of daily living are provided. Baths are provided twice a week as a minimum.

Residents have the option of buying their own personal care supplies, however Copernicus Lodge supplies each resident with the necessary personal toiletries for routine daily care at no cost to the resident.

If a resident requires speciality type items related to skin and wound care, then the cost of these supplies may be covered under a special fund through the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care so long as the resident's condition qualifies.

From time to time, residents needs change and they may require the use of equipment such as a walker, wheelchair or geri-chair. If the need is short term, then Copernicus Lodge provides this equipment at no cost to the resident. However, if assessed that the item will be required on a permanent or long term basis (more than 4 weeks), then the resident will be required to purchase their own equipment. Depending on the item, financial assistance may be available, through a Ministry funded Assistive Devices Program (ADP).

The Medical Director oversees all medical care. Residents may choose their own attending physician or have the attending physician assigned to them by our Medical Director. Physicians provide routine visits to residents and are available on a rotational on-call basis after hours.

A Polish speaking Psycho-Geriatrician has an office on site and works as a consultant to our Attending Physicians. He visits their assigned residents on a referral basis to assist in dealing with cognitively deteriorating behaviors and other "related dementias".
