Seniors Apartments

Apartment rates are set by the Ministry of Health. Tenants can apply for a subsidy. If a tenant qualifies for a subsidy, the rental rate will be based on the tenant's income and assets. Once a subsidy is received, an annual review of the tenant's income and assets must be completed in order to continue to receive the subsidy. This review generally takes place in the late summer.

The rates for apartments, as of January 1, 2008 – December 31, 2008 are as follows:
Bachelor I................$851.00
Bachelor II.............. $818.00
One Bedroom.........$1028.00

The above amounts include utilities (except telephone and cable services). A deposit of the last month’s rent is required. All units are air-conditioned, electrically heated, and contain as fully equipped kitchen. Copernicus Lodge does not provide furnishings.

Applicants for apartments must be 65 years of age, be Canadian citizens or have permanent landed immigrant status in Canada. In the case of couple, one spouse must be in their 65th year.
Applicants with fully completed applications will have their name placed immediately on a waiting list according to the date their application was received at Copernicus Lodge. Their interview will be held closer to a time when their apartment is becoming available.

 

 
     
 

Important Note: Internal transfers (moving from one apartment to another) is not permitted.
(*) In order to access the emergency call communication system located in the apartment, tenants must have their telephone service registered with Tavasys/Telus. The system is called the Igeacom Nurse Call System which operates directly through the telephone line. By pressing the emergency button or activating the pull cord in the bedroom and bathroom areas, an alarm will be sent to Copernicus Lodge’s reception area (which is operated 24 hours a day/7 days per week). The system provides for two-way voice communication between the tenant and reception staff, who will confirm the need for help and immediately notify a staff from our 24 hour Supportive Services Program to respond to the tenants call for help.
