Jesse Flis

Chairman of the Board

Son of Polish immigrants, Jesse Flis, having earned a Master of Education degree from the University of Toronto, worked in the Toronto Board of Education as teacher, principal, consultant and coordinator of special education. In 1970, he became a founding member of the Wladyslaw Reymont Foundation of Canada, named for the Nobel Prize-winning Polish author. While on a sabbatical leave to study educational methods in Central Europe, he collected archival material for the foundation, including Reymont’s letters.

Manny Radomski is the former director general of Defence Research and Development Canada (formerly the Defence and Civil Institute of Environmental Medicine, National Defence Canada). He is also professor emeritus in the Faculties of Medicine and Physical Health and Education at the University of Toronto. He has published extensively in the areas of environmental stress, sleep, growth hormone, and exercise.

Ted Cieciura

2nd Vice-Chairman

Ted Cieciura joined the Board of Direrctors for Copernicus Lodge in 2001, with the aspiration of creating better living conditions for our seniors. Graduating from Western Technical School in 1962 he then went on to complete a program in Environmental and Land Use Planning from the University Waterloo in 1977. Ted then furthered his education with a completed extended education course in Ontario Professional Planners Institute in 2000. He has been employed by Principal-Design Plan Services Inc., as a Town Planning Consultant for over 40 years and a member of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute, member of BILD (Building Industry and Land Development) and Director of St. Maximilian Kolbe Foundation. Ted has been married to Irene (nee Wojcik) since 1964, has two children- T.J. and Amy, four grandchildren- Kayla and Mia Cieciura, Avery and Ajay Seydel.

Dr. Ray Mathews, MD, is a former Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto. He is also the former Director of Medical Faculty of Hillcrest Convalescent Hospital. He joined the Foundation Board in 2008 to ensure that the Lodge continues to build for the future.
