Caring for and Enriching the Lives of Our Residents at Copernicus Lodge Long-Term Care!

At Copernicus Lodge, our Programs and Services team offers programs seven days a week, including holidays and evenings. Various culturally specific activities are designed to enhance our residents’ well-being and promote physical health, mental stimulation, and social engagement across five core domains: physical, emotional, spiritual, social, and intellectual needs.

All activities are developed, organized, and led by qualified staff. We provide residents numerous opportunities to engage and participate in these programs that enrich their lives. We provide group and individualized services tailored to each resident’s unique needs and circumstances.

Examples of Our Recreational Services and Activities Include:

  • Smile Theatre
This program typically brings groups of 5 to 8 improv performers weekly, providing valuable entertainment in groups while supporting bedridden residents.

  • Montessori Methods
Our Activation Therapy Assistants are trained in Montessori Methods, which promote an innovative approach to working with older adults experiencing cognitive and physical impairments through one-on-one visits and small group activities.

  • Nurturing Life/Pet Therapy
This program incorporates animals, plants, and children into residents’ daily lives to create a humanized, home-like environment.

  • Doll Therapy
This intervention introduces lifelike, weighted newborn baby dolls to residents with dementia. Doll therapy provides opportunities for purpose, love, joy, and caring, and it can help reduce anxiety, agitation, and restlessness while promoting peace and calm.

  • Snoezelen Room
Our home features a Snoezelen room where staff use various multi-sensory equipment and resources to offer residents one-on-one and small group activities to promote relaxation and reduce agitation or anxiety.

  • Physiotherapy Exercise
We hold daily exercise classes led by physiotherapy assistants.

  • Music Therapy
Music Therapy integrates music and counselling to support residents in various ways. Led by a certified Music Therapist, sessions are personalized to address each resident’s needs, focusing on emotional support, social skills, and reducing responsive behaviours. Music Therapy uses techniques like drumming, movement, and singing to create a safe space for residents to express emotions and build connections with others.

  • Exotic Animals
We organized a visit with various animals to our home, allowing residents to hold, cuddle, or interact with hedgehogs, tortoises, parrots, bunnies, and other small animals.

  • Pet Therapy
Each week, we look forward to the visit of a trained pet therapy dog in our home. This special visit brings comfort and joy as the dog provides sensory, emotional, and other forms of stimulation that brighten the lives of our residents.

  • Intergenerational Program
During the school year, local elementary school students visit our residents as part of our Intergenerational Program.

  • Monthly Birthday Parties
Our monthly birthday celebrations are always popular, along with movie afternoon, games, sing-alongs, and bingo.

  • Gardening Club
During the summer, residents enjoy cultivating their green thumbs by planting and caring for vegetable and flower gardens.

Additionally, we offer a comprehensive range of therapies, which are listed below.
