Copernicus Lodge Independent Senior Living

Copernicus Lodge’s Apartments for Independent Seniors (“Senior’s Residence”) is an independent living building for low-income seniors who meet certain eligibility requirements. It is a care home with the meaning of the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006. As a care home, we offer accommodation, care services and meals for up to 200 tenants.

Our tenants may be eligible for supportive housing and funded assisted living services. However, it is important to note that our Seniors’ Residence is not a hospital, long-term care home or retirement home within the meaning of the laws of Ontario. As such, Copernicus Lodge is limited in how much support it can provide to tenants living in its Seniors’ Residence.

Types of Accommodation

Copernicus Lodge offers three types of apartments in its Seniors’ Residence.  Apartment rates are set by the Ministry of Health and are adjusted annually. Tenants can also apply for a rent-geared-to-income (“RGI”) housing subsidy. If a tenant qualifies for a housing subsidy, the rental rate will be based on the tenant’s income and assets to make housing more affordable.
