A Place to Call Home
Copernicus Lodge provides high quality services, care and a place to call home for Toronto’s aging population.
At the heart of Copernicus is a holistic, resident-focused approach, a Christian environment and strong Polish heritage. We are a not-for-profit organization, made possible by the generosity and support of the Polish Canadian community.
Our Culture & History
“I envision a home that would strive to provide for the needs of the whole human being where the self-worth of every individual would be underlined in both attitude and action and where the dignity of the human being would be given the highest respect.”
1972: A dream Initiated
A delegation of parishioners from St. Casimir’s Roman Catholic Church approached father Michael Smith about the need to build a seniors home for the growing number of aging Polish Immigrants. Father Smith shares their concern with the Oblate Community who back the idea and ask him to lead the project. After consulting with the Polish parish community, a location in Toronto is chosen. With financing from the Oblates, Father Smith purchases a large parking lot on Roncesvalles Avenue from Loblaw’s, right in the heart of the Polish community.
